SCV CHEER
Santa Clarita Valley CHEER is a branch of CHEER founded in May 2022 to serve the SCV community. While sharing resources and funding with main CHEER, SCV CHEER operates independently with its own structure, student officers, and activities. It has control over specific funding generated from recycling activities. Currently, over 80 participating families are actively involved in our branch.
Activities
SCV Cheer's primary activity is community cleanups. Throughout the past year, we organized multiple cleanup events in parks, trails, and sidewalks. These cleanups provide a fun and social opportunity to help protect and beautify our neighborhoods.
Our recycling program collects recyclables from our daily lives to fund CHEER. Every month, we gather to donate our recyclables at the local recycling center. To date, we have had 10+ recycling trips and collected $800+ for CHEER. These proceeds directly support funding for trail clean-up equipment, SCV social events, and more.
We volunteer on a monthly basis with the Children's Hunger Fund, a non-profit based in Sylmar, CA. Donations to CHF are sorted into packages that are distributed to churches in the United States and around the globe. Each package is designed to food and necessities to disadvantaged families.
Our Chinese tutoring program assists struggling kids with Chinese language learning, including vocabulary and pronunciation. Tutors meet students at the library every Saturday for homework help. The program started in early February and has been ongoing since then. SCV CHEER has also organized and participated in various activities. Click the hyperlinked title above to explore further!
